1 3-1 Discussion Finding and Analyzing Scientific Sources Hello everyone, I am glad that we are in the third week of this course. In this course, I chose to analyze the issue of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). As Shtulman et al. (2020) explain, GMOs are plants, animals, or microbes whose DNA is altered through genetic engineering to attain a given physiological or biological feature. The introduction of GMO products has changed how people used to modify their products through cross-breeding. However, researchers have continued to study the impact of GMO products on society. There have been various connections between the consumption of GMO-modified foodstuffs and health issues. Thus, I chose a research question: What are the health issues related to the consumption of GMO-related products? When researching my issue, I faced various challenges, which I conquered to attain the details I wanted on my chosen issues. One of the biggest challenges I faced when trying to find sources was sorting out the ones that had specific information I required for a certain part of my issue. Searching for a credible source for a certain part of my issue required thorough synthesis, which was difficult because many sources related to GMOs and their impacts on our health. The challenge I faced when analyzing a scientific source was that some of the vocabulary used by authors was new to me. For instance, I had to look for the meaning of certain words like Bacillus thuringiensis. Overcoming the challenge was based on looking for the meaning of each difficult word I experienced while analyzing scientific sources and looking for the applicability of each vocabulary to get full knowledge.
