What lines on the Celestial Sphere are analogous to latitude? Declination lines are analogous to latitude. 3. What lines on the Celestial Sphere are analogous to longitude? Right ascension lines are analogous to longitude. 4. What naked eye star stay put in the sky, while the other stars circle it? The North Star stays put. 5. What Shakespeare character is “…constant as the Northern Star…?” Julius Cesar is “…constant as the Northern Star. . .” 6. What is the relationship between the altitude/elevation of Polaris, and your latitude? The altitude/elevation of Polaris, and our latitude are equal. 7. If you were at the North Pole, in which direction would you see Polaris? It would be directly above. 8. How much of the Celestial Sphere can you see at any one time, if you are standing on the Earth? You would only be able to see half of the Celestia Sphere. 9. Which way does the Sun move with respect to the horizons? The Sun appears to move from east to west. 10. Which way does the Sun move with respect to the background stars? The Sun appears to move east. 11. Give three reasons why the Earth’s tilt causes it to be hotter in the summer than the winter. During the summer the Sun heats up the earth for longer hours. The sun is directly above earth causing a more direct heat to Earth. During the summer the Sun travels through less atmosphere causing the rays to be stronger.
