Answer the following questions about your chosen scientific news story. Replace the bracketed
text below with your responses.
Provide the title and link to your chosen news story so your instructor may locate it.
⦁
The scientific news story that I chose for this course topic exploration is
European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. (2023, August 31). Tiny mineral inclusions picture the
chemical exchange between Earth's mantle and atmosphere. ScienceDaily. Retrieved September 3, 2023,
from www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/08/230831121645.htm
Summarize the main idea of the news story you selected. This should only take 1–2 sentences.
⦁
Scientist have discovered current information about The Great Oxidation Event from
studying apatite inclusions found in zircon crystals formed through old magma, this was done with using
a type of circular particle accelerator called synchrotron.
Briefly explain any prior knowledge and what you would like to know more about regarding your
selected news story.
⦁
The reason I chose this story is because it is of a topic, I have no prior knowledge of. I
have never heard most terms and scientific names mentioned in this article, and that excites me. In this
course I want an understanding of natural science from a perspective I did not have prior. Having a better
understanding of the world and what makes it up gives me the understanding of how to play my part in
preserving it.
1-2 Activity: Topic Exploration
Discuss the value of the scientific research presented in your selected news story for
contemporary society.
⦁
This story shows that things that impacted the earth 2.4 billion years ago, could still
resurface in some way. The ability to apply a piece of science from that long ago to the current day is a
privilege in some ways, since so many things that could once thrive on this planet have long since
become extent.
