Great insight! I liked what you said: "He questioned his
personal worthiness before the Lord and other prophets
expressed similar concerns about their personal worthiness
and their weaknesses." I think the more we seek to be like
him, we acknowledge that we are stained by sin but I am also
reminded of the scripture in Ether 12:27, which teaches us
that the Lord knows our weaknesses, and if we bring our
weaknesses to him, he will make them stronger. Every day, I
am always grateful for the atonement of the Savior; with it,
we know that we can always start over.
Hannah, I think Joseph Smith like many individuals grappled with a sense of
personal inadequacy and imperfection. However, the statement of feelings
condemned for his weakness and imperfections reflects a common human
experience of struggling with one's shortcomings, especially in the context of
religious and moral expectations. One of the teachings of this Church teaches and
emphasizes personal growth, repentance, and striving for perfection. and Joseph
Smith, as the first Prophet of the Church, may have felt a heightened responsibility
to exemplify these principles, leading him to be acutely aware of his shortcomings.
I loved the readings from this week.
it was so much fun reading through everything
and teaching about it.
I think it is interesting how when one prepares to teach a
subject they start to understand the subject so much more.
I have always found the
restoration interesting.
The fact that Joseph Smith had three visitations by Moroni in
one night is so crazy to even comprehend; however, I also think it is interesting how
this happened three years after the First Vision.
I think that this was sort of a trial
period for Joseph Smith.
Maybe God wanted to test him a little, or to see what he
would do once the glory and shock of the First Vision.
Either way, we know that he
did something right and when he did mess up God was good enough to forgive him
and give him a second chance.
Yeah, I've always found the experiences of Joseph Smith interesting to read about.
Hos faith was certainly tested on several occasions. When reading it over I think it's
easy to overlook the gap in time between the major events that Joseph Smith
experienced. The gap between the first vision and angel Moroni was 3 years and in
class it was mentioned that when prophets such as Moses and Elijah came to
restore the needed keys, it was also many years later when this occurred. It's cool
to see how God trusted this young boy and young man in Joseph Smith in the
responsibilities that were given to him. He made mistakes on the way like we all do,
but he learned, and God continued to aid him through all of his experiences
One of the finest things about the restoration of this gospel in our dispensation was
the restoration of the priesthood which this restoration make it encompassed the re-
establishment of the priesthood authority, which is essential ordinances, and
doctrinal revelations. I think the events surrounding Joseph Smith's life from the first
Vision to the translation of the Book of Mormon and how the church was organized
are central to the narrative of the gospel's restoration and continue to shape the
faith and the doctrine of the church today. In addition, the restoration of the gospel
of Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith is attributed to a series of profound events
which
also brought about the coming forth of the Book of Mormon to create the
pathway of
the organization of the Lord's Church again on earth.
