In chapter 6 in
Mastering Graduate Studies,
the author discusses the expectations of
graduate students to look deeper into academic research. The purpose of being information
literate is to strengthen the students ability to analyze resources at a master level to better
understand the material of what they are researching in order to support their thesis.Using digital
databases is essential for finding information along with making sure the information is coming
from credible sources and using accurate data.Using controlled vocabulary creates better search
results to support a students thesis. To become a successful academic researcher, learning library
databases and how to find peer reviewed references is key and will aid in expanding scholarly
knowledge for a graduate student.

“Bias-Free
Language describes the professional and respectful way to write about others and make certain
the students' writing is bias-free.Using the proper wording using person-first language for people
who have disabilities or have chronic conditions is important when writing about them. It is
respectful to use identity-first language for people who may have disabilities. While writing
about someone that is of unknown gender,writing “they" is important so that there are no
assumptions made of someone’s gender.Everyone’s lives are different,so it is considerable to use
the correct and appropriate
terms when writing about someone’s personal qualities.
