Session 1 Discussion
Do Christians who utilize social media face any special advantages or risks?
Social media can lead to a lot of wonderful chances. For instance, there are more possibilities for
interactions, partnerships that are sustained and enriching, social support, and more (Adler &
Proctor II, 2017, p. 42). Additionally, I found my boyfriend on social media! We have a lovely
blended family now after four years! Without it, I probably would not have ever met him. Who
knows, maybe I would have. I simply give thanks to God that I did encounter him.
Risks include human trafficking, sex offenders recruiting kids and boys online, and a host of
other issues. Other negative effects of shallow connections include social isolation, relationship
breakdown, stalking, harassment, and more (Adler & Proctor II, 2017, p. 46).
How may it help or hinder the spread of God's kingdom and our ability to witness?
Depending on the type of material we are disseminating, it could help or hinder our witness and
the expansion of God's Kingdom. Despite the fact that I do not believe social media to be
harmful, I acknowledge that it does have some disadvantages. I believe we can all share the
gospel, information about God, Jesus Christ, our salvation, and other relevant topics on social
media. Colossians 4:6 (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996/2015) states, "Let your
conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone." If
we don't have the correct supporters, it can also hurt. There are many terrible people in the world,
particularly on social media. The amount of hatred I observe in this world—both online and
offline—amazes me but doesn't surprise me. My heart is so broken by this. I observe people
being kind to me in person before criticizing me later, both online and offline. In order to combat
this, Christians need to hold fast to their beliefs and resist letting the outside world influence us.
our best selves. But it's easier said than done. Because they have closed their brains and hardened
their hearts against him, Ephesians 4:18 states that "their minds are full of darkness; they wander
far from the life God gives." New Living Translation of the Holy Bible, 1996–2015.
