Module Two Question 1 Describe one of the beliefs and values of the Navajo as illustrated in your readings. The Navajo believe in respecting and honoring the nature around them. Connecting with nature is an important part of the culture, we can see this in the medicine, the art, the songs and the dancing. Module Two Question 2 Describe one way in which the Navajo have incorporated their beliefs and values into the societal structure on the reservation since regaining some autonomy in the 1970's. The Navajo had reverted back to their practice of using traditional medicines that include herbs, songs and ceremonies. In addition, they were given better healthcare benefits and have facilities that follow the traditional healing practices. Module Two Question 3 What beliefs and values can be found in your culture? How do these beliefs and values influence your day-to-day life? Some beliefs and values that are found in my culture is to stick together and that those that aren't blood related can still be considered family. I have people in my family that are not blood related, but we treat each other as if we are. The bond is stronger than the blood. Module Two Question 4 Adopt the social science perspective to create a list of questions about this issue. Write at least two questions each from the point of view of a psychologist, a sociologist, and an anthropologist. 1. What are the psychological effects of children working in harsh conditions? 2. What are the common mental illnesses seen in children that have went through child labor? 3. Do those that have gone through child labor themselves, believe this practice should still exist?
4. How will culture shift more children working, rather than spending time learning the beliefs and practices of their culture?
