What is the Budget for the Newly Renovated Privateer’s Tower?
Qualitative Information
Casino Halifax is one of only a few licensed casinos in Atlantic Canada and one of the most successful due to high volume of tourist traffic throughout the year. In 2018, the casino undertook a $75,000,000 renovation its tower with upgrades and 20 new rooms, increasing the rooms in the tower from 567 to 587. This renovation increased the average room rate by 20.2%. Quantitative Information
1) Rooms to be budgeted to be booked in 2020:
(587 rooms in total x 0.912 occupancy rate) x 366 days in 2020 = 195,935.904
Therefore, rooms to be budgeted in 2020 are 195,936.
2) Budgeted Net Revenue in 2020:
($149 average hotel rate per night x 195,936 rooms to be budgeted in 2020)
= $29,194,464
The Budgeted Net Revenue is $29,194,464
3) Budgeted Variable Cost for 2020:
($27 Variable cost per room per night x 195,936 rooms in 2020) = $5,290,272
The budgeted variable cost for 2020 is $5,290,272
4) Prepare a Budget for Privateer’s Tower for 2020 with the Above Assumptions:
Budgeted Revenue……………………….$29,194,464
Less: Variable Cost……………….……..($5,290,272)
Contribution Margin……………………..$23,904,192
Less: Fixed Costs……………..………….($2,390,000)
Net Income…………………………………$21,514,192
Conclusion
It appears that the Privateer’s Tower will certainly generate a healthy amount
of income for Casino Halifax. With an expected net profit of $21,514,192 and
total revenue of $29,194,464, Privateer’s Tower would have a Profit Margin Ratio of ($21,514,192 / $29,194,464) = 73.69%, which is substantial.

• Assume you are working on budgeting for the room department of your hotel.
• Assume the hotel’s ‘Room Revenue (Sales)’ was $1,640,000 during 2019. Based on the lodging forecast report, you expect the ‘Room Revenue (Sales)’ to increase by 3.7% next year.

• Assume the ‘Salaries’ expenses (fixed costs) from the room department was $280,000 during 2019. For 2020, this fixed cost will increase by 2% due to the expected increase in living expenses in this area.
1. What will be the budgeted ‘Room Revenue (Sales)’ for 2020 ($)?

A highway bridge is being considered for replacement. The new bridge would cost $X and would last for 24 years.
Annual maintenance costs for the new bridge are estimated to be $27,000. People will be charged a toll of $0.22 per car
to use the new bridge. Annual car traffic is estimated at 360,000 cars. The cost of collecting the toll consists of annual
salaries for six collectors at $9,000 per collector. The existing bridge can be refurbished for $1,400,000 and would need
to be replaced in 24 years. There would be additional refurbishing costs of $80,000 every five years and regular annual
maintenance costs of $17,000 for the existing bridge. There would be no toll to use the refurbished bridge. If MARR is
10% per year, what is the maximum acceptable cost (X) of the new bridge?
