Sesalie Walker 2-1 Module Two Assignment: Exploration of Predictive Policing Southern New Hampshire University CJ-305 Technology in Criminal Justice 3/15/2024
Baltimore is my chosen city for the assignment. This is the link that I used Public Crime Map (baltimorepolice.org) . While looking at his map I’m able to analyze certain crimes for instance homicide, carjacking, aggravated assault, residential robbery, shootings, and commercial and street robbery. This is the link to the Open Baltimore site Open Baltimore (baltimorecity.gov) . It permitted me to observe collected data as soon as the past 7 days or one year backdated of crimes. All statistics and violent crimes are noted along with location particularly the town that the crimes were committed in. I do believe that this information encourages some type of accountability and transparency. I think more data should be obtainable like addresses and names of violent offenders. Advancements are happening but it will still help if everyone on the side of law enforcement starts to understand the needs of citizens. It’s vital that investigative departments teach citizens how to get access to websites that show important details about offenders who are violent. Residents will be given the opportunity to acquire knowledge of violent crimes happening near you or in the local area. For me, the site was pretty easy. If we are talking about the general public, I do not believe that it’s user-friendly and most of them do not know that it exists. Outside of class, I do see myself using crime mapping and also educating my family and peers about it as well, in order to assist with maintaining the safety of us and our communities.
I do believe that this site assists in encouraging accessibility to the police. Also, assist court officials or even citizens to see where our law enforcement is spending most of their time serving and protecting to reduce community crimes.
