Responsibility accounting: Responsibility accounting is a concept that states that each and every
cost that is incurred in the company is responsibility of some or the other person working in the
company.
Decentralized business: A decentralized business organization is the one in which decision
making is delegated to various levels in the organization, that is the lower, middle and top levels
made their own decision respectively. Under a centralized business organization, the decision
making is performed only by the top level management.
Responsibility Center: A responsibility center is that part of a business organization that has its
own objectives, policies, procedures etc. The managers of responsibility centers own the
authority and are delegated with the responsibility for the respective responsibility center.

There are three basic types of responsibility centers are:
Cost Center: Cost center is responsible for cost but not be simultaneous revenue
generation.
Profit Center: A profit center incurs costs and well as generates the revenues but does not
control the investments.
Investment Center: An investment center is along with being a profit center also controls
investments, that is, an investment center has control over costs, revenues as well as
investments.
