Journal 5 - Oct. 26, 2023
My fifth visit to Chinook was on October 26, 2023. This visit was a little crazy there was
so much going on today. Tyler and Christina were running around the school and students were
everywhere. I think Christina is another SPED teacher or some kind of support teacher. With
how busy today was I never got to ask her about what exactly she does. Although, I know she is
not a general classroom teacher. She does not teach a specific grade and seems to do a lot of what
Tyler does.
I forgot to ask if Chinook also has parent-teacher conferences on Monday and
Tuesday but I made the connection that things were happening which is why everything was a bit
crazy. A lot of people needed to catch up to schedule. Instead of getting there during my usual
time, I ended up going earlier, this was because I needed a ride for my later time. This meant I
got to experience Recess Duty and a planning period. Recess Duty was fun but cold. It seems
like you mostly supervise unless there's something going on.
During Tyler’s planning period, she was trying to get things organized and ready for
reading groups but that did not really work out. I helped make some copies of reading stories and
the quizzes that go along with them. My favorite story chosen was Frankenstein. I think that the
older reading group was the one who chose it. The planning period seemed to go by very quickly
then we were trying to get reading groups going. The reading groups switched around last week
since my visit. Although I did not get to ask why. There were a lot of students leaving early and
getting testing done. For the first reading group, we only got to spend about 10 minutes with
them. They were running really late in the classrooms so we had to wait for them to be done.
Tyler had set up the reading group and then got called to talk to a parents so she let me run the
beginning of the lesson. We went over letter sounds and started their reading lesson. After Tyler
got back from talking to the parent we had to switch to the older reading group. By that time it
was my time to leave.

QUESTION 1
Marina had an accident with her car and the repair bill came to $900. She didn't have any emergency fund money and no extra money in her monthly budget, so she ended up borrowing from a pay-day loan company. As long as she can pay the loan back at the end of the 30 day period she won't be charged any interest, technically. However, she did have to pay an $19 processing fee per $100 that she borrowed.
If she were to consider the processing fee to represent interest paid in her formula, what would she discover to be the annual interest rate she was charged on her short term loan?
QUESTION 2
The end of the month has arrived and Marina was only able to save up a portion of the money she owed so far. This means she will have to delay paying off on the remaining amount. Besides the delayed payment fee that she is charged, she will now have to pay interest on the remaining amount until it is paid off. The APR (annual percentage rate) is 46.5%, but the interest is…
