Journal 6 - Nov. 2, 2023
My sixth visit to Chinook was on November 2, 2023. This week students are working on
their portfolios so it has been a busy week. They are finishing out their portfolios this week so
Tyler said it has been a busy week. They also had a field trip yesterday so today everyone is
playing catch up. The students are also finishing out their expectations. Expectations are
basically assignments per topic/subject that they need to complete within a certain time. I wonder
why these are called expectations. Although, it also makes sense because students are “expected”
to complete them.
When I got to Chinook, Tyler had not started reading groups yet. She was finishing
setting up. There was also a problem at recess with a younger student, I want to say a
kindergartener, so she was also taking care of that. The student did not want to come inside after
recess and had stayed outside. He also did not listen to his teacher and continued to hide outside.
Since Tyler deals with behavior issues she was the one called to talk to the student. The student’s
grandma was on the way to pick him up but I do not know if it is because of his behavior. Tyler
asked him to write letters to everyone he was rude to and those who had to wait for. I wonder
why she chose for him to do this.
After this, reading groups started. Since they were running behind, they were skipping
through the book to try and finish everything they had missed. This included 3 mini-spelling tests
that they had not done. The spelling tests consist of writing sight words and the students should
know how to spell. As well as the words all have a common rule such as the FLOSS rule.
Currently, all the students are at different points in their lessons. Tyler was going back and forth
between lessons and pages. One student was working on matching, another was taking a spelling
test, and another needed help reading. It was cool to see how she handled doing all that at once.
It makes me think that I will need to be able to multitask and divide my attention equally
between students. During this time we were also stuck in the hallway so we were all sitting on
the floor. My leg fell asleep during this and I realized I might have to build my tolerance for
crisscross floor sitting. I am currently not built for this.

Activity 1. Invest Wisely
After a month of saving your allowance, you accumulated 10,000 in your account.
You want to make more of this money and you just heard from your friends about “investing”.
So you posted on your Facebook that you are looking for something you can invest your money.
Two of your friends commented. One friend says, “Invest to me and after one month, your money
will increase by 20% every 10 days.” Another friend of yours says, “Invest to me and your money
will increase by 30% every 15 days for a month.” To whom you will invest?
To help you decide whether who between your friends to choose, you can make
a timetable and compare.

Problem 6-27 Calculating Project NPV
With the growing popularity of casual surf print clothing, two recent MBA graduates
decided to broaden this casual surf concept to encompass a "surf lifestyle for the home."
With limited capital, they decided to focus on surf print table and floor lamps to accent
people's homes. They projected unit sales of these lamps to be 11,000 in the first year,
with growth of 6 percent each year for the next five years. Production of these lamps will
require $65,000 in net working capital to start. Total fixed costs are $155,000 per year,
variable production costs are $21 per unit, and the units are priced at $64 each. The
equipment needed to begin production will cost $625,000. The equipment will be
depreciated using the straight-line method over a 5-year life and is not expected to have
a salvage value. The tax rate is 25 percent and the required rate of return is 17 percent.
