Explanation of Solution

Server farms: It is a set of system servers that are maintained by the organization in order to provide functionality of the server. It contains numerous computers that require huge amount of power supply.

Value of server farm on a large organization:

• The servers from server farm might provide idleness and fault tolerance that is, if a single system fails, then the application will be rolled over automatically to another system.
• Though server farm contains numerous servers, it requires large amount of:
  • Power supply
  • Air conditioning
  • Generators for back-up
  • Security
  • Money for maintenance
• They should be placed closely to fiber-optic communication links.

Server virtualization: It is a method that follows software based partitions in order to create many virtual machines on a distinct physical server. This virtual machine allows to perform various applications on its own platform. It also increase the usage of server.

Value of server virtualization on a large organization:

• They mainly focus on the services that are provided by the technology.
• Though they are virtual machines, they work as a huge number of servers and it requires,
  • Low cost
  • Low energy,
  • Minimum space
  • Less cooling system
  • Less maintenance
