Concept explainers
To choose: the correct term to determine the degree of precision needed for the given measurement situation.
Answer to Problem 4E
Inch
Explanation of Solution
Given:A person making a sweater measures the fabric to the nearest inch or eighth of an inch.
The degree of precision needed mainly depends on the application of the product. In this case, a sweater is being made and we know that sweater is made from stretchable materials. So, variation in the size of the sweater by an inch or two will be easily compensated by the stretching property of the sweater. Hence, measurement to the nearest inch will give required precision.
