Concept explainers
In Exercises C.77–C.83, we have repeated the information from Exercises C.47–C.53. For each exercise, use Procedure C.2 on page C-44 or Procedure C.3 on page C-51 to perform the appropriate multiple comparisons using a family confidence level of 0.95.
C.82 Salary Offers. The College Placement Council conducts surveys on salary offers to candidates for degrees and publishes its findings in A Study of Beginning Offers. To study the effects of major and degree for physics and computer-science (CS) majors receiving a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, or a Ph.D., independent random samples of seven candidates each were obtained from the six groups under consideration. The salary data, in thousands of dollars, are given in the table in Exercise C.52 on page C-36. Output C. 17 on page C-39 shows computer output obtained for a two-way ANOVA on these data and also supplies a table of cell and marginal means.
