To determine

The three rules of chart indicating any change in the process.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

In Statistical Process, the control charts are used in the manufacturing process to control the design specifications of the parts to be manufactured. These charts help in ensuring that the final product should be able to meet the design specifications. For this some specific limits of tolerances are governed and controlled during the entire process. There are some rules that need to be follow while working with these charts. They are:

  1. As these charts are developed by considering some tolerance limits there should not be any adjustment made in the chart unless any point falls outside the specified limits.
  2. Do not adjust unless seven in a row are on one side of the centerline. If it is so, then it indicates that the mean has shifted, and an adjustment or change is necessary.
  3. Do not adjust the process unless seven in a row trend up or down. Each one must be larger or smaller than the last for the trend. This kind of trend indicates that something has changed and needs an adjustment.

These are the three basic rules that should be follow while dealing with a chart.
