Answer to Problem 1E

Solution:

The volume of the solid cuboid is 72cuin and  the surface area of solid cuboid is 108sqin.

Explanation of Solution

Formula used:

Surface area of the cuboid: The formula to calculate the surface area of cuboid is,

Surfaceareaofcuboid=2lh+2lb+2bh ….... (1)

Where, l is the length of the cuboid, b is the width of the cuboid and h is the height of the cuboid.

Volume of a cuboid: The formula to calculate the volume of cuboid is,

VolumeofCuboid=lbh …… (2)

Where, l is the length of the cuboid, b is the width of the cuboid and h is the height of the cuboid.

Given:

The length of the given cuboid is 6in.

The breadth of the given cuboid is 4in.

The height of the given cuboid is 3in.

Calculation:

Substitute 6 for l, 4 for b and 3 for h in equation(1), to find the surface area of the cuboid.

Surfaceareaofcuboid=2(6)(3)+2(6)(4)+2(3)(4)=36+48+24=108sqin.

The surface area of the cuboid is 108sqin.

Substitute 6 for l, 4 for b and 3 for h in equation(2), to find the volume of the cuboid.

VolumeofCuboid=(6)(4)(3)=72cuin.

The volume of the cuboid is 72cuin.

Final Statement:

Thus, the volume of the cuboid is 72cuin. and the surface area of the solid cuboid is 108sqin..
