Explanation of Solution

Given:

Dell is considered as the fastest manufacturing company on earth and specializes in computer customization. Connect to Dell’s website www.dell.com and visit the portion that allows you to customize either a laptop or desktop. Choose an already prepared system and compare its CPU speed, RAM size, monitor quality and storage capacity with the customized version of it based on same parameters.

The system under investigation is XPS 1500 touch.

The configurations of the system are listed below.

Standard Customized
Name Dell, XPS 15 Touch Dell, XPS 15 Touch
Cost $1899 $2159
RAM 16 GB 16 GB (cannot be customized)
Hard Drive 256GB(included in price) 512GB ($200)
Operating System Windows 10 Home, x64 Windows 10 Pro, x64 ($60)

The only hardware modification that can be done in the system is in its storage capacity. The customized system is the one that is more preferred by me. As, it comes with the 16GB internal RAM and the extra storage capacity of 256GB with an increased cost of $200. Also, the operative system is upgraded from the standard Windows 10 home to Windows 10 Pro. It is also recommended from the company’s website.

Conclusion:

Customization capability provided by dell on its products is extremely useful from consumer perspective. A single product model can satisfy the needs of large number of customers who have varying requirements in terms of RAM, CPU speed and storage capacity.

(5) The simply supported beam shown in figure supports uniformly distributed characteristicdead and imposed loads of 5 kNm-1 each, as well as a characteristic imposed point load of 30 kN at mid-span. Assuming the beam is fully laterally restrained and there is nominaltorsional restrain at supports, select a suitable UB section in S275 steel to satisfy bendingand shear considerations. Also, check the selected UB section against the deflection.           (40 Marks)
A simply supported beam is subjected to the end couples (bending is about the strong axis) and the axial load shown in the figure below. These moments and axial load are from service loads and consist of equal parts dead load and live load. Lateral support is provided only at the ends.
