Chapter 9.9, Problem 4QFD
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The kind of ethical problems that might have arisen from the deception used in Schachter and Singer’ theory.

Introduction:

Stanley Schacher and Jerome Singer, in 1962 experimented and test the theory that states “emotions are established through the relation between the physiological state of arousal and the label or cognitive interpretation that is placed on the arousal by an individual”. The experiment is especially accounted for the different behaviors of both the “angry” and “happy” man in different conditions. Schachter and Singer’ theory is based around “cognitive arousal”. It suggests that before the occurrence of an emotion, an arousal in the body takes place, along with the simultaneous labeling of that arousal, considering the cues provided by the contemporaneous surroundings.
