Program Plan Intro

Inheritance:

• Inheritance is the concept of inheriting the members and properties of a base class from the derived class.
  • The main advantages of inheritance are,
    • Code reusability and fast implementation.
    • Reduces the size of the program code.
  • There are five types of inheritance:
    • Single inheritance
    • Multiple inheritance
    • Hierarchical inheritance
    • Multilevel inheritance
    • Hybrid inheritance
  • If a subclass inherits a base class, then the member functions and data members of the super class can be accessed by the derived class.
    • But the derived class does not inherit the constructors from the base classes; each derived class should contain individual constructors.
  • Syntax for declaring subclass is given below,

//define the super class

class Super

{

  //class members

}

//define sub class

class Sub extends Super

{

  //class members

}

• In the above snippet of code, a super class “Super” is declared and a subclass “Sub” is defined using the keyword “extends”.
