Summary Introduction
Introduction
Sigmund Freud, often called the Father of Modern Psychology, is probably best known for his theory of psychoanalysis. However, in his later life, he wrote and published texts on other subjects as well, one of them being Civilization and its Discontents in 1930. In this book, he discussed a general tension between the individual and civilization, which he attributed to man's need for freedom and the paradox of civilization's need for man to conform.
