Chapter 9, Problem 4MIA
Summary Introduction

Case summary: Though the nursing career offers opportunities like lifelong learning, three days working, and meaningful work, still hospitals face a lack of nurses. The turnover rate is also high where nurses leave their job within a year. Nursing offers a good salary option than other career opportunities for a fresh graduate. If nurses can work overtime or as traveling nurses, then they can earn a six-figure salary. However, many registered nurses say considering the job responsibilities, the salary is not enough. Also, one cannot pursue a nursing career for long-only for monetary benefits if they do not love the profession. Also, male RNs are given more salary than female RNs. Nurses also have to face verbal and physical abuse at the workplace. Doctors physically assault nurses and question their competence often. It is also seen that nurses are mistreated by patients. Nurses also have to suffer through injuries during work for which nurses feel frustrated. Hospitals also hide and reduce data of suffering of their health workers. Even when the health industry can face many problems due to a lack of nurses, there is still a lack of appropriate behavior towards nurses for which they demand collective action by calling for strikes.

To explain:Whether hospitals have an ethical responsibility for providing equipment to stop work related injuries to nurses and the reason for it.
