Summary Introduction

To Review:

The effect on the lac operon in a lactose medium.

Introduction:

The lac operon is the operon, which is activated in the presence of the lactose molecules. Thebinding of the allolactose causes the expression of the lac operon and the metabolism of thelactose.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

In the presence of the glucose the lac operon is not active. The gene would be sitched off due to the binding of the repressor.

In the absence of the glucose and presence of the lactose, the lac operon would be activated and produce the enzyme to digest lactose in a high amount. The lactose act as an inducer.

In the absence of the glucose, the cAMP levels are high and this activated the CAP (catabolite activator protein). CAP-cAMP bind to the lac operon which causes the production of the enzyme from the lac operon.

Conclusion

In the absence of the glucose and presence of the lactose, the lac operon would be activated and produce the enzyme to digest lactose in a high amount.
