Introduction

College sporting events bring together people of diverse backgrounds to cheer for players from diverse backgrounds. They could perpetuate negative stereotypes if players are only seen as prototypes of their race, rather than as fellow students. Generally speaking college sporting events can be used to allow people of different backgrounds to come together to work toward a common goal and find areas of similarity that allow them to overcome their irrelevant and insignificant differences (such as race, sex, national origin, and religion, among others).
