Explanation of Solution

In thermodynamics, the variables like, Temperature, Pressure, Volume, Entropy and Heat capacity etc. are used to define the state of a system. These properties are related to the macroscopic state of the system. So, if there are 2 particles which are heading toward each other, thermodynamics do not give any effective qualitative information about the state here.

However, at the microscopic level, i.e. the properties of the individual particles then one can apply thermodynamics.

One can relate this to collision theory which considers two kinds of collisions the elastic and the in-elastic collisions. Practically, all collisions are in-elastic because some heat energy is always lost during the interaction and in those cases the behaviour of particles becomes uncertain and cannot be predicted.
