It consists of two strands of polynucleotide chains that are wound around each other to form a double helix. It is composed of nucleotides, sugar, and phosphate.

Explanation of Solution

In 1950, the biochemist Erwin Chargaff and his colleagues found that DNA samples from different sources exhibited certain regularities with respect to the abundance of the different nucleotides. The Chargaff’s rule states that the amount of adenine is equal to the amount of thymine and the amount of guanine is equal to the amount of cytosine but the amount of other nucleotides was not equal. Thus, this relationship shows that the total amount of purine is equal to the total amount of pyrimidine.
