The antigens of the blood donor and recipient must be compatible. If an antigens is absent from the recipient’s blood, then the recipient cannot receive blood from a person who has that antigen. If a person with ${\text{B}}^{+}$ blood cannot receive ${\text{AB}}^{+}$ blood because of the presence of the A antigen from the donor.
