Chapter 8.3, Problem 5MI
Summary Introduction

To fill:

The table to compare the three stages of cellular respiration.

Introduction:

Cellular respiration is a catabolic process by which cells produce energy by oxidizing respiratory substrates such as glucose. It is a three-stage process which occurs in the cytoplasm and mitochondria of a cell. The first stage is the glycolysis or EMP pathway, the second stage is the Krebs cycle and the third is the electron transport chain.

Explanation of Solution

Cellular respiration is a catabolic process by which energy is produced by oxidation of the food in presence of oxygen. Cellular respiration is completed in three stages, first is glycolysis which occurs in the cytoplasm and second is Krebs cycle occurs in the mitochondrial matrix and third is electron transport system (ETS) occurs in the inner membrane of mitochondria. The end products of aerobic respiration are carbon dioxide and water and a high amount of energy (38ATP).  Aerobic respiration in multicellular organisms such as animals, plants, humans, etc.
