Introduction:
Cellular respiration is a catabolic process by which cells produce energy by oxidizing respiratory substrates such as glucose. It is a three-stage process which occurs in the cytoplasm and mitochondria of a cell. The first stage is the glycolysis or EMP pathway, the second stage is the Krebs cycle and the third is the electron transport chain.

Answer to Problem 5MI
Glycolysis | Krebs cycle | Electron transport |
A series of | A series of chemical reactions that break down pyruvate from glycolysis | ATP is made from high-energy electrons and protons released from NADH2and FADH2. |
Takes place in: The cytoplasm of the cell | Takes place in: Mitochondrial matrix | Takes place in: Mitochondrial membrane |
produces two ATP molecules for every glucose molecule that is broken down | Produces One ATP and two CO2 | provides energy for ATP production final electron acceptor is Oxygen |
Explanation of Solution
Cellular respiration is a catabolic process by which energy is produced by oxidation of the food in presence of oxygen. Cellular respiration is completed in three stages, first is glycolysis which occurs in the cytoplasm and second is Krebs cycle occurs in the mitochondrial matrix and third is electron transport system (ETS) occurs in the inner membrane of mitochondria. The end products of aerobic respiration are carbon dioxide and water and a high amount of energy (38ATP). Aerobic respiration in multicellular organisms such as animals, plants, humans, etc.
