Concept introduction:

On passing an electrical discharge through gaseous hydrogen, the ${\text{H}}_{\text{2}}$ molecules get dissociated and the excited $\text{H}$ atoms and hydrogen like atoms produce electromagnetic radiation in the form of spectral lines.
