The hip joint is a ball and socket joint which is a type of synovial joint. Synovial joints are those that permit free movement of its bones. The characteristic feature of these joints is to allow free movements as they have a fluid called the synovial fluid allowing free movement of the constituting bones. Apart from this the other factor that allows the free movement is the loose packing of the constituents of joint which allows movement of the bones.
