Reasons for drinking excessive amounts of alcohol among college students:
The major reason for drinking excessive amount of alcohol is competitive drinking on college campuses. College students have a habit of playing drinking games such as quarters, beer pong, and flip cup. Some games include some type of physical and cognitive task that specify when and how much the participants should drink.
Other games include motivating extreme alcohol consumption. Students who play these kinds of games are less likely to regulate and monitor how much they consume and are at danger for excessive intoxication and negative related outcomes.
Many drinking games have been related to unfortunate sexual experience, blacking out, and deaths from alcohol poisoning, and other alcohol-related injuries.
