Answer to Problem 14A

The angle of rotation R is 55°46.

Explanation of Solution

The below figure represent the sketch of the sketch of a pyramid formed on surface of the extended sides of the rectangular solid surface block and identified angle.

Mathematics for Machine Technology, Chapter 75, Problem 14A , additional homework tip 2

Figure-(1)

Here the side DC is the common side of the triangle ΔADC, ΔBDC and ΔCDE

Consider, the angle A of the triangle ΔADC is 37°, the angle B of the triangle ΔBDC is 48°, the tilt angle of the triangle ΔCDE is T and side DC is 1unit.

Write the expression for the angle B using the triangle ΔBDC.

  tanB=DCDB ...... (I)

Here, the length of the common side DC is DC and the length of the side DB is DB.

Write the expression of the angle A using the triangle ΔADC.

  tanA=DCAD ........ (II)

Here, the length of the side AD is AD.

Consider, the triangle ΔADB is a right angle triangle.

Write the expression of the angle ADB of the triangle ΔADB.

  tan(ADB)=DBAD ......... (III)

Consider, the triangle ΔAED is a right angle triangle.

Write the expression of the rotation angle.

  R=90ADB ........ (IV)

Calculation:

Substitute 48° for B and 1unit for DC in Equation (I).

  tan(48°)=( 1unit)DBDB=( 1unit)tan( 48°)DB=0.9unit

Substitute 37° for A and 1unit for DC in Equation (II).

  tan(37°)=( 1unit)ADAD=( 1unit)tan( 37°)AD=1.32unit

Substitute 0.9unit for DB and 1.32unit for AD in Equation (III).

  tan(ADB)=( 0.9unit)( 1.32unit)ADB=tan1(0.68)ADB=34.22°

Substitute 34.22° for ADB in Equation (IV).

  R=9034.22°=55.78=55°46

Conclusion:

The angle of rotation R is 55°46.

To determine

(c)

The angle of tilt T.

Answer to Problem 14A

The angle of tilt T is 52°51.

Explanation of Solution

Write the expression of angle ADB of the triangle ΔDCE.

  sin(ADE)=DEAD ........ (V)

Consider, the triangle ΔCDE is a right angle triangle.

Write the expression of tilt angle T by using triangle ΔCDE.

  tanT=DCDE ........ (VI)

Calculation:

Substitute 34.22° for ADB and 2.25unit for AD in Equation (V).

  sin(34.22°)=DE( 1.32unit)DE=(1.32unit)sin(34.22°)DE=0.76unit

Substitute 1unit for DC and 0.76unit for DE in Equation (VI).

  tanT=( 1unit)( 0.76unit)T=tan1(1.32)T=52.85°T=52°51

Conclusion:

The angle of tilt T is 52°51.
