Chapter 7.1, Problem 2CC
Summary Introduction
To explain: The characteristics of the membrane lipid compositions for the soil found in cooler regions vs. soil found in a warmer region.
Introduction: Cells are surrounded by a layer of phospholipids called a plasma membrane. Variation in the lipid composition of an organism has risen due to evolutionary adaptation. An organism living in a hot region significantly differs in the membrane lipid composition from an organism living in a cold region. This appears to maintain the membrane fluidity that is essential to allow a molecule to enter and exit.
