The New York Times reported that Apple has unveiled a new iPad marketed specifically to school districts for use by students (The New York Times website).
The 9.7-inch iPads will have faster processors and a cheaper price point in an effort to take market share away from Google Chromebooks in public school
districts. Suppose that the following data represent the percentages of students currently using Apple iPads for a sample of 18 U.S. public school districts.

As part of their efforts, the executives also surveyed managers across the country to determinestaffing shortages. Managers were encouraged, but not required, to submit the survey. From theresponses they received, 45 out of 52 managers said they were either “severely understaffed” or“understaffed.”
Looking at the numbers, one of the executives is outraged. “How can we expect ourstores to be successful if almost 87% are understaffed?” Give a statistical response tothe executive to assure them that the staffing problem is probably not as bad as it seemsin the preliminary numbers.
One of the biggest issues facing e-retailers is the
ability to turn browsers into buyers. This is
measured by the conversion rate, the percentage
of browsers who buy something in their visit to
a site. The conversion rate for a company's
website was 10.1%. The website at the company
was redesigned in an attempt to increase its
conversion rates. A samples of 200 browsers at
the redesigned site was selected. Suppose that
29 browsers made a purchase. The company
officials would like to know if there is evidence
of an increase in conversion rate.

To collect data, he keeps track of how a group of men are dressed as the enter an office building. Is this an observational study or an experiment? Why? Identify the sample and population of this study. In order to match the demographics of the company, the researcher wants 10% of the sample to be management and 90% to not be. How can this be done using stratified sampling? The researcher also decides to keep track of subjects' age. This would be considered: stratifying, bias, blocking, control?
