Question
Chapter 7, Problem 3R
Summary Introduction
Concept introduction
People can determine the social class of others by the way that person presents himself or herself to society.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
People are often judged based on first impressions. During the initial introduction, one might be looking at the clothes, hair, hygiene, and accessories of others. If given the opportunity, they may also view the car, home, family, and friends, which might further impact their impression of the person’s status. The perception of this person based on these factors might lead one to believe that he is wealthy or poor, educated or uneducated, or settled or homeless. We use that first glance to make a judgment about someone’s status without truly knowing anything about the person.
