Summary Introduction

Introduction

I found little evidence for medicalization of deviance in my friends answers. They mentioned communication problems, false assumptions, and evil rather than a chemical imbalance or other medical issue.

Answer and explanation

One of my friends said that rape happens due to miscommunication in the context of a date rape, when the man fails to gain consent when he thinks things are progressing towards sexual activity. She also said that sometimes people are just evil and want to hurt others. Another friend said that lack of empathy and respect can lead to rape, and a third friend said that some people feel entitled to satisfy their urges whenever they want. None of them mentioned any medical condition or chemical imbalance or other evidence of medicalizing this form of deviance.
