Answer to Problem 1RQCS

“The right atrioventricular (AV) valve is also referred to as the tricupsid valve”.

Explanation of Solution

The heart is divided into four chambers (two atria on the top and two ventricles on the bottom) and is separated by the valves, which consists of two semilunar (SL) valves between the ventricles and two atrioventricular (AV) valves between the atria. The function of these valves is to allow blood flow in only one direction and prevent the backflow. The AV valve between the ventricle and right atrium has three flaps, and it is called the tricupsid valve.

Molecular Biology Question You are working to characterize a novel protein in mice. Analysis shows that high levels of the primary transcript that codes for this protein are found in tissue from the brain, muscle, liver, and pancreas. However, an antibody that recognizes the C-terminal portion of the protein indicates that the protein is present in brain, muscle, and liver, but not in the pancreas. What is the most likely explanation for this result?
