When considering the similarities of both caste systems, think about how the upper caste made intermarriage illegal in both societies.  Also consider how both the United States and India created separate schools, restaurants, hotels, drinking fountains, and toilets; basically all aspects of life were separated. In the United States, African American had to move to the side of the street if a white person was passing. In comparison, the untouchables of India still must do this when they meet someone of a higher caste. You might want to also consider how people from both countries were given a status that they would have for life (ascribed status).
