To explain: The green revolution.
Answer to Problem 1CYE
The green revolution is the movement to increase the crop yields using hybrid seeds, irrigation, fertilizers, pesticides and by the process of mechanization.
Explanation of Solution
The green revolution was first introduced in Mexico in 1940s. It refers to renovations in the agricultural practices on a large scale to produce high yielding crops. Green revolution can be defined as the application of science and technology to increase the productivity of the crops. The chemical fertilizers and new developed pesticides helped in increasing the yield and productivity of the agriculture.
The introduction of high-yielding verities of seeds and the increased use of fertilizers and irrigation are known as green revolution. It provided the increase in the production needed to make a country self-sufficient in food grains. Following are the benefits of the green revolution:
- Yields and the production are increased exponentially with increased inputs.
- Efficiency of this revolution is high for large-scale production that helps in the feeding a large sum of population.
- The development of the pesticides has helped in the improved yield of the crop.
- Labor cost is also reduced.
- Less land is used for larger yield.
