Answer to Problem 1CR

The African savanna is a tropical grassland that generally consists of grazing herbivores such as wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and so on. They also have predators like lions, humans, and hyenas. The alternation of seasons causes the development of different ecosystems.

Explanation of Solution

The types of grasslands found in tropical areas are known as savannah. It generally consists of scattered trees and the area is characterized by warm temperatures year round with interchanging wet and dry seasons.

African savanna is tropical grassland that is occupied by the presence of a large number of grazing animals like wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, elephants, antelopes and some predators like hyenas, lions, and humans. In addition, the grasslands consists of plants that mainly grow in deserts. The vegetation in the savanna is mainly desert-like plants that are adapted to grow in hot and dry conditions. The temperature conditions are alternating between dry and wet seasons.

The temperature conditions of the Africa savanna support the survival of different kinds of ecosystems. The hot seasons promote the growth of desert-like vegetation and grazing herbivores and wet season is characterized by moderate rainfall. Therefore, the change in the climatic conditions of the African savanna serves as an example of the area where the alterations in the climatic conditions can lead to the development of different ecosystems

Use the attached piezometer map to make your own, clean version of the map, and indicate the elevation of the water table at all piezometer locations. Draw equipotential lines (lines of equal water table elevation) using regular intervals – creating a contoured map of the water table. Determine the direction of groundwater flow based on the horizontal gradient. Label  the areas of recharge and discharge directly on your map. Flow lines: Draw flow lines on your water table map. The lines should be at right angles to the equipotential lines and extend from the recharge area to the discharge area. Hydraulic Gradient, Specific Discharge (Darcy Flux), Average Linear Velocity:  Using your water table map, estimate an average hydraulic gradient between two locations, call them locations A and B, one at the eastern-most and a second at the western-most extent of your dataset (note the north arrow on the map). Calculate the specific discharge, q, between the two locations. For this calculation…
