Chapter 7, Problem 17PROB
Summary Introduction

PE ratio of the stock is 19 and its earnings per share is $3.70.

Price to earnings ratio (P/E ratio) or earnings multiplier is another form of valuing a company. It is a relative way of analyzing the value of a stock. P/E ratio is calculated by dividing the current market price of the stock by its earnings per share. Higher P/E ratio indicates that investors are willing to pay more for each dollar of earnings and vice-versa. P/E ratio tells us how long it will take for the investors to recover its investment. A high P/E ratio means it will take longer to recover their amount invested and a low P/E ratio means tat the investment will be recovered faster. Therefore, it is a measure of the payback period of the investment. Moreover, a company with low PE is undervalued and with market correction, the stock price is expected to rise in the future. Similarly, for a very high P/E stocks, price might fall with the market correction, as it is overvalued.

At year-end 2019, Wallace Landscaping’s total assets were $2.30 million, and its accounts payable were $430,000. Sales, which in 2019 were $2.9 million, are expected to increase by 20% in 2020. Total assets and accounts payable are proportional to sales, and that relationship will be maintained. Wallace typically uses no current liabilities other than accounts payable. Common stock amounted to $630,000 in 2019, and retained earnings were $330,000. Wallace has arranged to sell $180,000 of new common stock in 2020 to meet some of its financing needs. The remainder of its financing needs will be met by issuing new long-term debt at the end of 2020. (Because the debt is added at the end of the year, there will be no additional interest expense due to the new debt.) Its net profit margin on sales is 5%, and 50% of earnings will be paid out as dividends. What was Wallace's total long-term debt in 2019? Round your answer to the nearest dollar. $   What were Wallace's total liabilities in…
