Case Summary: Grade inflation is a common concern in Colleges and Universities these days where 75% of students achieve an A. Colleges and Universities need to take serious steps towards checking on grade inflation as this can sap away the student’s motivation to work hard. Organizations also find it difficult to evaluate candidates’ transcripts if grades are inflated. Also for teachers and professors it is less motivating to accurately assess and estimate student’s performance and to teach them through strong grading feedback.

Interpretation: Since 75% of students are getting A as an average grade, thus this system of grading has become meaningless for motivating students to work hard.

Adequate Information: The crowding of grades at the top end of the scale can sap away student’s motivation to work hard because there is no way to score a higher grade than A (as A is the first top grade) even if a student has performed extraordinarily good or given a remarkable performance.
