Concept introduction: Cell surface to volume ratio is important to maintain the cell functions. The cell surface to volume ratio is important for the exchange of substances between cells and its environment. The possibility of microscopic size cell is due to the presence of large surface area to volume ratio. Larger organism has more number of cells instead of large cells to facilitate the better exchange of materials.
