mpany History and Profile
Both Ito-Yokado and Seven-Eleven Japan were founded by Mr. Masatoshi Ito. He started his retail empire after the Second World War when he joined his mother and elder brother and began work in a small clothing store in Tokyo. By 1960, he was in sole control and the single store had grown into a $3 million company. After a trip to the United States in 1961, Ito became convinced that superstores were the wave of the future. At that time, Japan was still dominated by Mom- and-Pop stores. Ito’s chain of superstores in the Tokyo area was instantly popular and soon constituted the core of Ito-Yokado’s retail operations.
In 1972, Ito first approached the Southland Corporation about the possibility of opening Seven-Eleven convenience stores in Japan. After rejecting his initial request, Southland agreed in 1973 to a licensing agreement. In exchange for 0.6 percent of total sales, Southland gave Ito exclusive rights throughout Japan. In May 1974, the first Seven-Eleven…
Cirque du Soleil ("Circus of the Sun" or "Sun Circus") is a Canadian entertainment company and is the largest theatrical producer in the world. Privately owned Cirque du Soleil, started in 1984 by a troupe of stilt-walkers from nearby Baie-Saint-Paul in Quebec, reinvented the circus.
Believing people worldwide were ready for something different to make them happy, they abandoned traditional acts such as lion tamers and bearded ladies. Instead, Cirque du Soleil offered dramatic, exquisitely choreographed shows marked by mystery and intrigue. Likewise, unlike traditional circuses, Cirque du Soleil targeted adults rather than children.
Today, Cirque du Soleil is now one of Canada’s most important cultural exports, employing 5,000 people at eight permanent shows in Las Vegas and at 12 other troupes that tour the world.
In 2017, Cirque du Soleil’s gross revenue was estimated to exceed Canadian $1 billion—it does not reveal its profits. As with any cultural product in a globalizing world,…

I do not believe it would be wise for Playboy to change their name or line of business. There is a lot of fame and popularity behind the name. Although Playboy might not be as popular as it once was, there are still individuals today that buy merchandise from the company just for its name. If the company were to change its name it would lose that credibility and popularity. There would be a loss of history behind the brand, which could decrease the overall profits and revenues of the company. Playboy is considered to be at the top of its industry, and changing its name would make it the same as every new brand coming into the industry. There would be no differentiation to persuade buyers. This would also make it incredibly difficult to market and campaign the brand because the brand would ultimately be the same as everyone else. Although if a change is truly needed, then Playboy could rebrand…arrow_forward

Some would say that Amazon invented the internet retailing business model that all other dot-coms are struggling to copy. Amazon understands the strategy of developing and maintaining customer loyalty, which is the key to success in retail e-business, and implements it effectively (Blocher et al., 2019). Amazon has a loyal and growing customer base because of its reliable service and low cost. It has recently been cited as a major factor in the bankruptcies of other companies such as Circuit City (electronics retail company) and Borders (book and music retailer). Amazon also presents a competitive threat to Walmart, OfficeMax, and other retailers. The reason: Shoppers find the same product at lower prices and enjoy the convenience of online shopping. A recent study showed that, on average, a Walmart product is 19% more expensive than at Amazon. Amazon avoids the costs of maintaining retail facilities…arrow_forward
