It is a microscopic individual cell that has the ability to respond to a stimulus and convert it into an action potential.

Explanation of Solution
The axons are long, slender projections in the nerve cell that carries information away from the nerve cell body to different neurons. Incoming signals from other neurons flows into the dendrites and cell body regions of most neurons.
To describe: The relationship between the presynaptic neuron and the postsynaptic neuron.

The neurotransmitters are endogenous chemicals released by the presynaptic neurons. These chemical signals are then released into the synaptic cleft and bind to specific receptors on the postsynaptic neurons.
