Factor the denominators of the above expression as follows. x 4 x 2 + 4 x − 3 + 3 9 − 4 x 2 = x 4 x 2 + 6 x − 2 x − 3 + 3 3 2 − ( 2 x ) 2 = x 2 x ( 2 x + 3 ) − 1 ( 2 x + 3 ) + 3 ( 3 + 2 x ) ( 3 − 2 x ) = x ( 2 x + 3 ) ( 2 x − 1 ) + 3 ( 3 + 2 x ) ( 3 − 2 x ) = x ( 2 x + 3 ) ( 2 x − 1 ) − 3 ( 2 x + 3 ) ( 2 x − 3 ) Note that, the denominators of the above fractional expression are different. To make the denominators of the fractions equivalent, find the LCD of the denominators. The factors of 4 x 2 + 4 x − 3 are ( 2 x + 3 ) and ( 2 x − 1 ) . The factors of 9 − 4 x 2 are ( 2 x + 3 ) and ( 2 x − 3 ) . Therefore, 2 , x , ( x − 1 ) and ( x + 3 ) are the factors of the LCD.
