Introduction:

The extent of damage done by a burn is estimated in tissue damage by the ‘rule of nines’. Only after knowing the amount of damage can the treatment begin as it gives an approximate amount of the skin that has to be substituted and the fluid and electrolytes that need to be replaced in the damaged tissues.
