Concept introduction: A defense system that consists of many biological structures and processes inside an organisms in order to protect against the diseases is known as immune system. The organs of the immune system can be classified into- primary and secondary lymphoid organs. The cells of the immune system are originated from the hematopoietic stem cell in the bone marrow. It can give rise to two main lineages- a myeloid progenitor cell and a lymphoid progenitor cell. These two progenitors give rise to the myeloid cells (macrophages, monocytes, dendritic cells, meagakaryocytes and granulocytes) and lymphoid cells (B cells, T cells and natural killer (NK) cells). The cellular components of the innate and adaptive immune system are composed of these cells.
