- Scenario 3 Ben Gibson, the purchasing manager at Coastal Products, was reviewing purchasing expenditures for packaging materials with Jeff Joyner. Ben was particularly disturbed about the amount spent on corrugated boxes purchased from Southeastern Corrugated. Ben said, I dont like the salesman from that company. He comes around here acting like he owns the place. He loves to tell us about his fancy car, house, and vacations. It seems to me he must be making too much money off of us! Jeff responded that he heard Southeastern Corrugated was going to ask for a price increase to cover the rising costs of raw material paper stock. Jeff further stated that Southeastern would probably ask for more than what was justified simply from rising paper stock costs. After the meeting, Ben decided he had heard enough. After all, he prided himself on being a results-oriented manager. There was no way he was going to allow that salesman to keep taking advantage of Coastal Products. Ben called Jeff and told him it was time to rebid the corrugated contract before Southeastern came in with a price increase request. Who did Jeff know that might be interested in the business? Jeff replied he had several companies in mind to include in the bidding process. These companies would surely come in at a lower price, partly because they used lower-grade boxes that would probably work well enough in Coastal Products process. Jeff also explained that these suppliers were not serious contenders for the business. Their purpose was to create competition with the bids. Ben told Jeff to make sure that Southeastern was well aware that these new suppliers were bidding on the contract. He also said to make sure the suppliers knew that price was going to be the determining factor in this quote, because he considered corrugated boxes to be a standard industry item. As the Marketing Manager for Southeastern Corrugated, what would you do upon receiving the request for quotation from Coastal Products?arrow_forwardwhat characteristic of the hospitality and tourism product is described in the following scenario: if an airline sells 150 of 200 seats on an airplane, the airline cannot inventory the seats until the next flight and sell 250 seats a. perishability b. seasonality c. standardization d. inseparabilityarrow_forwardIdentify the concepts and their corresponding description, obtained from the survey of a construction company: In the context of a construction company, it is required to maintain the organization of different works that the company carries out. Our client is in the habit of organizing a set of tasks into what is called a batch. Items are used as units of work intermediate level, to which a limited amount of material can be assigned to fulfill the tasks that compose them. It is necessary to distinguish the suppliers and the prices of each material, even if there is only one supplier for each material. Although rare, tasks can have an associated machine; but generally, they have more than one. The machines are not related to the work other than by the tasks and the items; and only operators with category “A” can operate them. All workers are paid according to their category and the hours worked, regardless of the work. ➢ Carry out the definition of the types of objects found. ➢ Develop…arrow_forward

It has been claimed that the ‘greatest business opportunities arise when you spot things your customer didn’t have a clue they needed until you offered it to them.’ The idea behind FedEx is simple. It is to provide a speedy and reliable national and international ‘overnight’ courier service for letters and parcels based upon air cargo. FedEx rightly claim to have invented the concept of overnight delivery, creating a whole new market where previously there was none. The company had a peripheral but significant role in the film Castaway, which featured Tom Hanks as a FedEx manager who survived the crash of a FedEx airplane only to spend several years marooned on a desert island. He held on to one of the packages from the plane and finally succeeded in delivering it. FedEx is, however, unusual in a…arrow_forward

He gives you the following facts: An old milling machine valued at RM 150,000 exists in the warehouse that can be modified for the new jig. The production line supervisor has given an estimate of RM 25,000 to modify this machine. It is hoped that the milling machine will be able to meet production requirements at full capacity. Another vendor, CARE Sdn Bhd, has produced the machine five years ago and can easily do the same modifications for RM45,000. The cooling system used for this machine is not environmentally safe and would require some disposal costs. CARE Sdn Bhd has offered to build a new milling machine to be more environmental friendly and a higher capacity for a price RM250,00. For this scenario: (a) Define the problem statement.
