Intermolecular forces of attraction are the forces which create attraction or repulsion between the molecules or neighboring particles. These forces are responsible for the interactions between the molecules.
There are many types of intermolecular forces like ionic attraction, dipole-dipole interactions, London dispersion forces or Van der Waals forces, Hydrogen bonds, Covalent bonds, metallic bonding etc.
One intermolecular force is always present in all types of molecules that is dispersion force.

The order of strength of intermolecular forces is:

Ionic> hydrogen bonding> dipole-dipole > dispersion (van der waals) force

Higher the strength of intermolecular force, higher will be the melting point.
